When Evergreen Installations was building a new home on a remote site in Northern Ontario, they set out to look for green power solutions they could use to power their tools. After some research, they found the BattPack from Thomas Solutions. The custom log home builder had very specific needs when it came to energy supply. They needed to provide green power solutions to a variety of machines such as drills, mixers, saws, grinders, air compressors, and a paint sprayer. They also needed to recharge batteries for their cordless tools.
Evergreen needed the BattPack to operate in typical work conditions which included humidity of 68% to 99% and temperatures ranging from 8 degrees to 23 degrees. The polycarbonate enclosure and airtight seals of the BattPack ensured that the battery cells were unaffected by these elemental variations and still operated optimally in powering their devices.
They attached the BattPack to a DeWalt battery recharge box which recharged the batteries for the power tools that were used almost constantly. It charged anywhere from one to six batteries at a time and still had enough power to provide current to plugged-in power tools like drills and saws. Some days saw them use motorized tools continuously with their Milwaukee 12-inch chop saw cutting up to 700-900 cuts per day. They observed that the BattPack performed better than their generator in both energy output and continuous usage.
The BattPack also emitted no toxic fumes or noise during its operation which added to its value in areas where these features were most needed. It was also easy to recharge the BattPack because it can recharge in as little as 3 to 5 hours. To recharge it, they plugged it in to their RV and charged it and as a back up recharge source, they had their traditional gas powered generator. This cut down on fuel costs because it did not need refueling providing a significant savings to the company. The fact that it is completely self-contained, has no moving parts and requires no maintenance made is simpler and more reliable to use.
Its durable casing made it resilient against wet or dry conditions and it can even be operated in tight enclosed spaces because of its more compact size compared to a standard generator. This made it an ideal companion for any indoor or outdoor project that required portable power solutions.
At its core lies an array of lithium ion batteries that are efficiently monitored, protected and maintained by a battery management system that protects it from overheating, short circuits, or over voltage. This also meant that the BattPack could last longer over its lifespan than that of comparable power sources such as lead acid batteries.
The BattPack can provide output of up to 20A through its outlets and had the power rating equivalent of a 4,000W to 5,000W gas-powered generator. It was more than capable of providing enough energy for running two power tools at the same time.
Overall, Evergreen was very satisfied with the real-world performance of the BattPack in their testing of its capabilities. It was able to supply ample energy for cordless or corded power tools in the field and held its own against the environmental conditions in which it had to operate.
The Batt Pack Energy is available for purchase or rent. It is offered by Thomas Solutions, a leader in fleet rentals and commercial vehicle management solutions for 50 years. The company is also actively seeking distributors in various markets and sectors across Ontario that would be interested in selling or renting the units.
