Recently, we received inquiries from a number of industrial and environmental services firms working on mine sites in Northern Ontario needing safe and reliable work trucks for their employees. Thomas Solutions provided them with work trucks that have the necessary accessories for safely operating in mining areas.
Below are some of the additions they installed for this purpose:
In an environment that is usually dark and treacherous, visibility can be a vital feature in a mining-ready work trucks. It is imperative for mining companies to keep their machines and people visible at all times. Lack of proper visibility can result in truck rollovers which are dangerous situations that need to be avoided.
A mining LED buggy whip helps illuminate mine site vehicles and keeps them visible to other drivers of large equipment as much as 1km away.
Amber Strobe Lights
Another tool that is used to visibly identify mining vehicles are amber strobe lights. These have high intensity LEDs with 360 degrees of coverage, alerting everyone in your vicinity of your presence.
These strobes have rotating warning LED lights encased in a low polycarbonate dome and features a heavy-duty magnetic base to establish a secure mount to your truck without scratching the vehicle.
It is also weatherproof so that it can withstand all the elements such as fog, rain, and snow. It can be mounted either on the dash or on the outside roof.
Mining First Aid Kit
Worker safety is of paramount importance in any operation. In the event of an untoward incident involving injury to workers, a first aid kit should always be available for deployment.
The kit contains an ‘o’ ring around the seal so it seals tight to help resist dust and water from entering the case and damaging the contents inside. The case also includes shelving and compartments, so all contents are easily stored and identifiable in an emergency. The portable kit is made out of robust and durable plastic with a carrying handle to quickly maneuver around. All work trucks in mine sites should be properly outfitted with first aid kits.
One of the hazards of mining is the spilling of oil or fuel during operations which can be very dangerous if not cleaned up immediately. Hydraulic oil spills from vehicles and machinery in mining sites can leave hydrocarbons that can reach water sources and pollute nearby environments. This is where spill kits become useful.
There are many classes of spill kits, from general purpose to those that are specific for mining and oil spillages. These are tailored to match the requirements of the mining industry.
It comes with a hydrocarbon absorbent roll which can be used when servicing mining equipment. The roll is simply placed underneath the work trucks as a preventative measure in case oil is lost during servicing.
20lb. Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher
Another fundamental safety tool that should be mandatory on all mine sites are dry chemical fire extinguishers are necessary for extinguishing ordinary combustions, flammable liquids and gases and energized electrical equipment. These should come standard on all vehicles and should be ready for use at a moment’s notice because fires can spread quickly and easily.
